Today Daniel Andrews has revealed the cost of the Heart Hospital to taxpayers has blown out a massive 210 per cent, from $150 million to $470 million.
This monument to Daniel Andrews’ ego has been dogged with problems.
There is a massive blowout in both the cost of the project and the contribution from Victorians, as well as significant delays due to the overdue business case and the lack of any additional financial supporters.
Even the name ‘Victorian Heart Hospital’ is misleading, with the Hospital predominantly serving patients from Melbourne’s South East, Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland, the same catchment as the current Monash Heart service.
Around the world, hospitals are moving from a standalone model to one where a full range of medical services are co-located to reflect the complexity of illnesses patients have.

"Daniel Andrews’ Heart Hospital is more about his ego than Victorians as this needed expansion of cardiac services could have been built 10 minutes down the road at Monash Medical Centre significantly cheaper and quicker."
