Daniel Andrews forced to release hidden ambulance data

Wednesday, March 28, 2018

Under pressure from the Liberal Nationals, the Andrews Labor Government have broken their silence on previously secret details about Victorians who no longer receive a Code 1 lights and sirens ambulance response.

Following two and a half years fighting to keep allegations of rorting under wraps, today Daniel Andrews and Jill Hennessy also caved on their 12 month battle to keep crucial changes to the Ambulance Dispatch Grid secret.

The data released today outlines the over 300 case types that no longer receive a Code 1 emergency ambulance and have been recoded to a less urgent response.

Three PAEC inquiries and an order from the Victorian Freedom of Information Commissioner have forced the Government into revealing exactly what led to 63,170 fewer Victorians receiving a Code 1 response last year.

Our paramedics do great work and response times have improved. But at the other end of the patient transfer at hospital emergency departments, ramping and bypass remain systemic issues the Government has failed to address.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge:

"Daniel Andrews campaigned on transparency and accountability, but his actions over the past three years have been the exact opposite."

"It beggars belief why Daniel Andrews had to be dragged kicking and screaming to release information all Victorians have a right to know."

"Daniel Andrews’ decisions repeatedly show that he holds Victorians in contempt."
