Monash Children's Hospital, but Paediatric ED

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

In 2010 the Victorian Liberal Nationals promised $250 million to deliver a new world-class Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton.

As well as delivering a new state of the art facility, the construction of the hospital promised to generate more than 700 construction-related jobs in Victoria.

The new 230 bed hospital, officially opened today, will enable Monash Children’s to treat thousands of additional children every year from south-east Melbourne, Gippsland, the Mornington Peninsula and beyond.

The Liberal National Coalition Government worked hard to plan, fund and begin construction of this outstanding facility which will deliver paediatric cancer, intensive care, neonatal and mental health services.

When Daniel Andrews was Heath Minister, not one dollar was spent on delivering a new Monash Children’s Hospital.

More recently, Daniel Andrews has abandoned the Liberal Nationals commitment to a dedicated paediatric Emergency Department at Monash Health, instead leaving it co-located with a busy adult emergency department.

Quotes attributable to the Shadow Minister for Health Mary Wooldridge:

“The new Monash Children’s Hospital, commenced by the Liberal Nationals will make a huge difference to the health of generations of Victorian Children.”

“Daniel Andrews’ failure to fund a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Department means there is still unfinished business at Monash Children’s.”
