According to statistics from the 2016 Census the median age of Eltham electorate residents is 41 years. Children aged 0-14 make up 19 percent of the population and people aged 65 years and over make up 15.3 percent.
Nearly 80 percent (79.3) of residents were born in Australia and English is the language spoken in 85.5 percent of homes.
Nearly 29 percent attend an educational institution. Of these 30.8 percent were in primary school, 25.2 percent in secondary school and 22 percent attended a tertiary or technical institution.
More than a quarter of households had a weekly income of more than $3000 and nearly 25 percent had three or more registered motor vehicles.
A total of 38.8 percent stated no religion on the census response but Christianity was the largest religious group totalling 54.8 percent.
The average person in Eltham earns $790 a week – $146 more than the average Victorian, they live with their partner in a house with two kids and pay $2000 a month on their mortgage ($272 more than the rest of Victoria), their house has three bedrooms and they own two cars.
